Substance use disorders are defined in which uncontrolled behavioral changes are in conjunction with the regular use of substances that affect the central nervous system. While it is different for everyone, if substance use disrupts the life of an individual or those around the individual, it is of concern. Substance use disorder includes compulsive and repetitive use and may result in the individual developing a tolerance to the substance. This may also include withdrawal symptoms when reduced or stopped.
